The Hal and Charlie Peterson Foundation is a Texas non-profit corporation classified as a private foundation under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The Foundation is governed by a seven member Board of Trustees, all of whom are natives of Kerr County.

The Trustees of the Foundation, in keeping to the devotion Hal & Charlie Peterson had for the Texas Hill Country and the resources available for grants, chose to restrict grant funding to those exempt organizations serving Kerr and adjacent counties in Texas. The Foundation has provided over $50,000,000 in grants to over 200 organizations in these counties through 2011.
